Introduction Search Engine Optimization Pay Per Click Google Adsense Google Local


Introduction ... Your website's web presence can stand or fall by the skill used by your web developer in the implementation of keywords and key phrases within your web pages and Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising campaigns. If people do not find your website within at least the first three pages of returned search results you will do limited online business unless your support your website using other advertising mediums such as print and radio.

For example ... If you own a cleaning company in Panama City Beach Fl these are examples of keywords and keyphrase's related to that business:

  1. Cleaning services in Panama City beach Fl
  2. Housekeeping services in Panama City beach
  3. Cleaning companies in Panama City beach Fl
  4. Office cleaning services in panama city beach Florida
  5. Commercial cleaning services in Panama City Beach etc. etc. etc.



I currently offer four different elements of internet marketing. A brief description of each is provided for you below. Please visit the links above for a more in-depth description.

 

  1. Search Engine Optimization or SEO for short ... this is a process of configuring your web pages so that they return high listings with the major search engines. As a general rule ... if you configure your web pages correctly for the major players ... you will score good listings with the smaller search engines too. This is the cheapest way to advertise your products online, although it takes a little longer to gain a listing with the search engines it is worth it in the end. Once the listing is gained it is best to keep an eye on how it performs on a regular basis, but it should only need minor updating between 1-4 times per year depending on the amount of competitors in your market.


  2. Pay Per Click advertising or PPC for short ... l offer this service with both Google and Yahoo! We create an advert which is linked to keywords, we then have to bid on those keywords and keyphrase's against your competitors. When web users type these keywords into a search engine that you are advertising on they will see your advert, and when they click on it they will be directed to your website. Each time somebody clicks on your advert it will cost you money. It could be ¢ 's or it could be $'s depending on the level of your competition. It can be a little expensive, but the extra traffic to your website can also be huge. No pain no gain! :-)


  3. Google Adsense ... these are basically the very same type of adverts that are created in Google's version of PPC ... Google Adwords. The difference being that you do not create the adverts, they are created by other companies and it is THEIR adverts that are placed on your website! Each time somebody clicks on an advert on your website you get paid a fee from Google.


  4. Google Local ... Places basic information about your business within the Google maps service. It is also possible that your business listing could show on the first page of Google search results returned for your business market.



    In the example images below we can see how the search process works on Google, and view how to interpret the returned results. Yahoo! and most other search engines use a similar formula also.


    This is also an example of how SEO should work. To check if your website has a good web presence, do the following ... Type in a keyphrase related to your business ( DO NOT include your business name), your town or city name and then hit the search button.

    If your website shows up on the first page of the search results ... you are doing well ... celebrate!!! If it is on the second page ... you will get less online business. If it is on the third page you will do a small amount of online business, and worse than that ... you can forget it!

    In this example lets pretend we need a cleaning company in Panama City Beach to clean OUR hotel. We type a keyphrase into Google's search bar: "housekeeping services in panama city beach". Please see the image below.



In the second image below we can see the results returned by Google once the user has pressed the search button. The numbers next to my scribbling's will inform us what that section of the webpage shows.

It also shows my SEO was on target because Plan B Cleaning Services came in 1st and 2nd in the returned SEO results! Yay! :-)


  1. The keyphrase that was typed into Google's home page


  2. The first three results here are organic SEO results. Sometimes the first 1-4 results at the top of a webpage can be PPC results, and PPC are always placed above SEO results when they are listed in the same column.


  3. This section is not SEO it is Local business results.


  4. This section is organic SEO again.


  5. Sponsored Links also referred to as Pay Per Click.

 



To test a website's web presence l think you need to check at least 10 keyphrase's, and to do it thoroughly maybe 50-100 depending on how many services or products you have. Once we know which keyphrase's are not showing up in the search results, then we can take action to improve that through either SEO or PPC or maybe even both.

Also do not include your company name in the keyphrase search because most new customers may never have heard of your company before, and the test needs to be accurate so that you can assess your situation.

l can also offer a keyphrase evaluation report for your website.


Seven years ago or so before PPC became popular ... when a user made a search on Google a webpage was returned usually with Ten SEO results and maybe two or three PPC in the right column of the page. Now it is not unusual for Google to return 10 SEO results 10-12 PPC and 3-10 local search on the first page!!! So now the competition to do business on the web has increased dramatically, and it will continue to do so as more and more companies put websites online.

So it is very very important to run a tight ship from all angles. You need good SEO or PPC or a combination of both, and also a local listing. This will increase your web presence and improve your probability of attracting people to your website.

You also need to be aware of your online competitors around you and what they offer so that you can be competitive and convince people to do business with you. Just attracting people to your website is no guarantee that they will purchase anything or use your services, you need to offer something better than your competitor.
